CNN —California will soon be decorated with a rainbow of wildflowers after drenching winter rain set the stage for a spectacular spring superbloom. The phenomenon isn’t unique to California; wildflowers can paint parched desert landscapes, mountains and grasslands in Arizona and Nevada, too, but some of the most dense and therefore spectacular displays are found in Southern California. David McNew/Getty Images/FileBut there’s hope for another brilliant superbloom following the wet winter, Meyer said. Desert sand verbena and dune evening primrose wildflowers bloom in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's Coyote Canyon on Thursday, March 14. “We don’t know as of yet if it’s going to be a good year for the poppies, given the rain,” Turner cautioned.

By February of that year, most American airlines had suspended flights to China due to fears about the coronavirus. In the next month, the CAAC slashed international flights to China, citing the need to curb imported Covid-19 cases. Despite the two sides amending their rules after negotiations, the number of flights between the United States and China still fell significantly during the pandemic. We look forward to once again welcoming Chinese group travel to the United States,” she said in a statement issued at the time. In June, Reuters reported that newly approved flights by Chinese airlines were indeed avoiding Russian airspace on their way to the United States.

CNN —The National Park Service wants to replant sequoia groves in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, where wildfires in 2020 and 2021 inflicted lasting damage on the iconic sequoia forests. Sequoias are among the species of trees that actually “depend on high-intensity fire in order to reproduce effectively,” said Hanson told CNN. RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel reacts next to U.S. President Donald Trump at a fundraising event in New York, U.S., December 2, 2017. Yuri Gripas | ReutersFormer President Donald Trump has grown "increasingly sour" on Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and the overall leadership of the RNC, according to a person close to the former president. "I do think if there's enough pressure from us and Trump, McDaniel might just decide, 'this is humiliating,' and step down." During a recent interview with conservative commentator Rogan O'Handley, Bannon asked O'Handley what he would like to say to Trump about McDaniel. Beyond the latest slate of Republican losses, the Republican National Committee also appears to be lagging behind the Democratic National Committee in overall fundraising.

For the week, through Thursday's settle, natural gas has climbed 8.1%, building on last week's 11% advance. Natural gas on Friday morning jumped another 1.5%. Even if he gets immense GOP congressional support to become speaker, Trump also appears like the very last person who'd even want the position. US President Donald Trump speaks in the Brady Briefing Room at the White House in Washington, DC on November 5, 2020. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs president, Trump was free to hire and fire staffers, counsel, and his cabinet at any point he wanted. As a speaker but not a member of Congress, Trump would have literally no ability to vote on any pieces of legislation. Let's imagine, for a minute, that Trump's both interested in the position and can somehow manage to convince GOP members to take McCarthy's spot.

Barbara Alper/Getty ImagesDrag has become increasingly visible in recent years through mainstream shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and popular public events such as drag brunches, drag bingo and drag queen story hours, in which drag performers read children’s books to young audiences, often at libraries. Some trans drag queens who received hormone injections were “strongly deplored by stage impersonators who (said) that the whole point of female impersonation depends on maleness,” Newton wrote. But “Drag Race” has also skewed viewers’ definition of drag – no drag kings have ever competed on the series, Testa noted, and the judges have long imposed somewhat traditional beauty standards upon contestants. Pickle reads from a book during the Drag Queen Story Hour program at a Los Angeles library in 2019. These lawmakers falsely claim that drag performers “groom” or sexualize children, of which there is also no evidence.
For more on that, I recommended reading my colleague Dan DeFrancesco's excellent 10 Things on Wall Street newsletter. And for today, let's see why the Fed's own economists are warning of a nearly 20% housing correction. They argued US home prices would have to tumble nearly 20% to bring the housing market back to fundamentals — and additional Fed rate hikes could lead to an even worse housing correction. Have you entered or exited the housing market in the last year? These four charts explain the troubling state of the housing market right now.
That's bad news for current real-estate investors, and probably good news for prospective ones. On the other hand, it's potentially good news for prospective real-estate investors who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for better deals. Below is a list of Insider stories to help navigate the current real-estate investing landscape as prices fall. They see US home prices falling another 6% in 2023, putting peak-to-trough declines at around 10%. The first-ever cannabis farmer's market in Los Angeles began on July 4 and opens weekly from Friday to Sunday. The health regulator said it would work with Congress to develop a new, cross-agency regulatory framework. The FDA has generally pursued limited enforcement activity regarding CBD, focusing primarily on food and beverage products that make unsubstantiated health claims. "A new regulatory pathway for CBD is needed that balances individuals' desire for access to CBD products with the regulatory oversight needed to manage risks," the agency said. Cannabis products, excluding Jazz Pharmaceuticals Plc's (JAZZ.O) epilepsy drug Epidiolex, are illegal at the federal level in the United States, although some states allow their use.
David McNew/Pool via REUTERSLOS ANGELES, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Porn star Ron Jeremy was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial in Los Angeles on rape and other sex charges involving 21 women, City News Service reported on Tuesday. Jeremy, 69, pleaded not guilty in August 2021 to more than 30 counts of sexual assault, including 12 of rape, in the Los Angeles area over a 23-year period. Goldfarb and a representative for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters on Tuesday. A hearing on whether to place Jeremy in a state hospital will be held next month, the Associated Press said. The alleged offenses took place at night clubs and bars in the Los Angeles area, during a photo shoot, and at Jeremy's home, the District Attorney's office said.
California's snowpack is on pace for a remarkable season after nearly three weeks of atmospheric river storms pummeled California with heavy precipitation. California has had nine atmospheric river storms since Christmas, Anderson said. "We're finally getting through the parade of storms," Anderson said. Meantime, a mudslide closed part of State Route 13 in the Oakland area, the state Transportation Department said. It expected it could take as long as three weeks to clear the road and up to six months for repairs.

"TVs you'll find on Black Friday are typically going to be entry-level sets," said Paul Gagnon, vice president and industry advisor for the market research company The NPD Group. People will be able to play Xbox Game Pass games over a cloud connection on 2022 Samsung smart TVs. When it comes to using the preloaded apps on your TV, it's important to know that smart TV stores, where you can download apps for your TV, vary depending on the TV's brand. Samsung TVs will let you access the Samsung Smart TV store, and LG TVs have the LG Content Store. If you're relying on the TV's built-in applications, Gagnon suggested, make sure the smart TV you're buying supports all the streaming apps you frequently use.
As tensions over the nine-month-old war worsen, NBC News looks at what a dirty bomb actually is, the damage it can cause and whether it can render any military advantage. What is a dirty bomb? A dirty bomb, also known as a “radiological dispersion device,” is defined as a conventional weapon that has been augmented with a radioactive material. The psychological damage from deploying a dirty bomb in Ukraine would probably be far-reaching, according to Plant. Cannabis legalization is failing to live up to key promises, the economist Robin Goldstein said. While federal cannabis legalization is one of the few US policy questions where there's widespread polling consensus, the industry is struggling. The Blunt Realities of Cannabis Economics," Goldstein and Sumner take a microscope to cannabis policy and the broader industry to answer key questions about the drug's future. "If you want smaller businesses to thrive, just break down barriers to entry because those barriers are best met by the biggest companies," Goldstein said. High prices for legal cannabis often push customers to illicit sellers.
But then other users began noticing the same thing, and in late July, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner all posted a block of text reading "MAKE INSTAGRAM INSTAGRAM AGAIN." Influencer as workerA study published last year compiled data from 30 in-depth interviews with content creators on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. But often, creators don't see themselves as people with the ability to fight back. That may be slowly changing, with influencers and content creators realizing that they need to work together more to demand more transparency and standards in their industry. The second hurdle is more personal: Many, if not most, content creators still do not see themselves as laborers.

"We'd remind each other in the hallways that we were going to meet at Louis at 4:20," Capper said. The evidence, according to "The Criminals" host Phoebe Judge, is a clipping from a San Rafael High School newspaper from 1974.
